A Gallant Soldier and a Good Citizen Gone.β€”It will grieve many hearts in Columbus to know that Mr. Henry Henes died in Montgomery yesterday morning of yellow fever. We made a brief mention in our noon paper. The deceased was only thirty-six years of age. He was born in Alsace, near the boundary of France and Germany, but came to Columbus several years autedating the war, and resided here until 1872, when he moved to Montgomery. A truer soldier the Confederacy did not have. At first he was a member of the City Light Guards, Second Georgia Battalion, and subsequently a daring scout to General Dearing. No man in the Army of Northern Virginia did his duty more faithfully for four years than he. A more chivalric, fearless heart never beat. He was a warm friend and open foe. He once outwitted the whole detective force of the United States, including that prince of scoundrels, Whitely. He has been thrice married and has left a wife, nee Miss Mary Gresham, of Columbus, and one young child. His life- was insured for $3,000. He will be buried to-day in Montgomery.
