By BEAT WEST Advocate Port Lavaca Bureau BLOOMINGTON, Dec. 7 — The undefeated Industrial Cobras kept their winning ways intact Saturday night as they stung Bloomington’s Bobcats for 16 straight points and went on to win the championship tilt of the Bloomington Basketball Tournament, 43-23. Rockport, with Eugene Latsky doing all of his 13-point scoring in the final quarter, eased by St. Joseph's Flyers to win consola tion honors in the eight-team, 10- game shoot, 37-33. A five-player all-tourney team was selected by the coaches and named to this elite quintet were Bobby Brezina of Louise, Mike McAfee of Ganado, Jimmy Upton of Industrial, Roque Estrada of Bloomington and Satsky. Upton, lanky pivotman for the Cobras, beat out Satsky for the individual scoring honors with 59 points in three games to 455 for Latsky's three outings. Bob Purdy of St. Joe ranked third with 36 Bloomington, starting the title go with a 3-1 record, had ideas of showing Industrial the losing side of the ledger as its floor general, Estrada, helped the Bobcats to outplay the taller Cobras for the first quarter and take a 10-8 lead. Upton’s jump shot knotted the count starting the second stanza, but Estrada’s two buckets and a charity shot by Lorenzo Gonzales put Bloomington into a 15-10 edge. A long drought, however, set in and before Bloomington could again score, the Cobras, led by Dave and Henry Barrios, John Young and Upton, had struck for the 16 points and a 26-15 lead. Bloomington was unable to rec over its form and Industrial, with Upton and Young controlling most of the board work, finished in complete control for its fifth straight win. Industrial bagged 16 of its 43 shots from the field for a fine 3/2 percentage. Bloomington hit only 11 of 43. St. Joe and Rockport made a duel out of it all the way in the consolation scrap. The Panthers jumped to a 10-5 first quarter start, but were held to only one fielder in the second period as the Flyers pulled off to an 18-15 intermission lead. The lead then changed nine times in the second half. St. Joe held a narrow 26-24 margin going into the final round and Meiss ner’s three-point spree built this into a five-point edge before Lats ky began pumping in points. Joe Schramek’'s jump effort gave St Joe a final lead at 31-29. Satsky knotted the count with a one hander then took advantage of fifth personals by Chuck Law rence and Meissner to shoot in four free throws and give Rock port the lead for keeps. The Panthers had only two boys, Satsky and Joe Cabiness, to score from the field and were outhit 14-12 in the matter of field goals. However, they gained the advan tage at the charity stripe. In Saturday's daylight games, Industrial and Bloomington ad vanced to the title game by beat ing Louise 44-33 and Tivoli 30-26, respectively. St. Joe ran wild over Victoria’s B-team, 51-20, and Rockport nipped Ganado in a real thriller, 43-42, for berths in the consolation match.
