DIED SATURDAY AFTER LIVING IN TOWNSHIP FOR 55 YEARS Milroy—Jens H. Scott, 73, Un derwood pioneer who saw the community grow from wild prairie to settled land over a per iod of 55 years died Saturday. _ Burial was at the Blake ceme tery north of Milroy Tuesday fol lowing funeral services in the Milroy Presbyterian church. Rev. H. N. Orcutt conducted the rites and pall bearers were Christ Lar son, Iver Heier, Peter Thompson, Soren Mortensen, Robert Bjork land and Herman Kremin. He was born February 12, 1865 in Slesvig, Denmark, the son of Hans and Maren Scott. At the age of 18, in 1883, he and his brother Peter came to Amer ica and lived with Jacob Gansvig, an uncle. A year later their father came to America and bought a farm in Underwood township. He lived in Underwood all his life with the exception of about three years spent at Mountain Lake. In the early 90’s he returned from there and purchased a farm across from his father’s. He operated a small store located on the place for several years. June 1, 1904 he married Mar garet Pauline Herring who pre ceded him in death February 2, 1937. To them four children were born: Stanley and Clifford of Milroy; Dorothy who died Decem ber 17, 1936 and Winnifred who died 20, 1934. Mr. Scott was confirmed in the Lutheran church in Denmark and after his marriage attended the Presbyter ian church of Milroy.
