Canada’s third Chicken De light specialty restaurant, com bining take-out and delivery with a restaurant service, came into being Friday afternoon when the Portage unit, located in the new Portage Plaza Shop ping Centre, was officially open ed. Hon. John Christianson cut the ribbon officially opening the unit. Les Holden is proprietor of the Portage unit which is only the third of its kind in Canada. At the present time the unit in cludes a restaurant, a home-de livery service, and a pick-up ser vice. Mr. Holden plans to in clude a drive-in service during the summer. Bill Bouttell is the manager of the restaurant, which will em ploy a staff of at least 10 per sons to take care of cooking, customer service and delivery service. The restaurant, which will ac comodate 30 to 55 people at one time, is decorated in soft shad es of yellow and blue, with rep licas of chickens dressed to de pict the various foods served by the restaurants. The cooking time for the av erage dinner is 14 minutes, and the average time for a home de livery is about 30 minutes. Meals served are cooked in specially designed, stainless steel conduction cookers, which operate on the principle of sear ing food. The cookers are the property of the Chicken Delight company, and no other restaur ant has cookers of a similar type. All food served in the rest aurant is cooked fresh. No fro zen foods are used. The Portage unit is also uni que in that the entire decorating scheme was designed by Mrs. Les Holden. Chicken Delight of Canada Ltd., was so pleased with the design scheme that it has adopted it for all of their specialty restaurants. The local franchise is held by Les Holden, under the juris diction of Chicken Delight. of Canada Ltd., for the purpose of obtaining food and other sup plies, and for maintaining stan dards of sanitary conditions and service.
