of the time of society folk of Joplin the last week. Social affairs have been few in number and informal, although a few large parties have been given for visiting guests. Several church bazaars and other affairs have been given during the week. The parties Friday and Saturday given by Mrs. C. D. Royse and Mrs. B. W. Lyon in the home of Mrs. Lyon were among the largest auction bridge parties of the week. Miss Leonelle Gamble of St. Louis was honor guest at the party Friday and Mrs. Franklin Greenwood of Indianapolis and Mrs. Russell Meade of Albany, N. Y., were honor guests Saturday afternoon. Miss Gamble was complimented with a luncheon Thursday given by Mrs. l. Love. Mrs. Chauncey Nunn of Toronto, Canada, was honor guest at a cautiful luncheon and auction bridge party Thursday given by Miss Gladys Gmeiner. This will be a red letter week in church circles. Many bazaars are cal endared for this week and those to be held later are keeping church workers busy. These will be the principal affairs for this week. Mrs. O. D. Royse and Mrs. B. W. Lyon entertained at auction bridge yesterday afternoon In honor of Mrs. Russell Meade of Albany, N. Y., and Mrs. Franklin Greenwood of Indianapolis. There were even tables at cards. Chrysanthemums were used for the decorations. Each of the honor guests received prizes and the other prizes were won by Mrs. A. R. Sandford, Agnes Fisher, Misses Hazel and Helen Porter, Leah and dAuriel Chickering, Lela Manning, Elsie Armil, Theresa Overly, Neva Winter, Grace Meredith, Grace Bullis, Clara Barr and Fern Hinckley. a4, D me i oe tt According to the late bulletin of the city library, music lovers are showing great interest in the coming to Joplin of Teresa Carreno, the noted woman Pianist. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Mme. Carreno was heard in this country as a piano prodigy in her ninth year. Her father, the Venezuelian minister of finance, was obliged to fly from his coun try with his family through a revolution ary uprising. The family settled in New York and little Teresa was taken as a pupil by Louis Moreau Gottschalk and later under Rubenstein. Mme. Carreno resided a great many years in this coun try, but her home is now in Berlin. After Paderewski, no pianist enjoys a wider fame, as she has played in every country of the civilized world. Music and needlework furnished entertainment for the guests. They brought a lunch with them and this was served in two courses at the close of the afternoon. Those in attendance were: Mesdames M. F. Harry, M.F. Bond, John Martin, John Vancell, K. 8. Kirby, T. C. Kirby, J. J. Burnett, Ollie Ray mond, H. I. Allbright, J. Young, Liza Campbell, J. A. Kelly, Addie Penson, Effie Brough, Nettie Winters and Pearl Abernathy; Misses Lucille Kirby, Ora Kirby and Lola Burnett, an OE Of Mrs. C. D. Royse and Mrs. Burt W. Lyon gave an auction bridge party Fri day afternoon at the home of Mrs. Lyon, complimentary to Miss Leonelle Gamble of St. Louis, who is visiting her sister, Mrs. P. BE. Burton. There were seven tables at cards. After the games, a two course lunch was served. Mrs. Kieth McCanse and Mrs. Clarence ‘J. Craig re ceived the prizes and Miss Gamble was awarded the honor guest prize, %* 4 in Mrs. B. L. Love, No. 407 Moffet avenue, entertained a beautiful luncheon Wednes day in honor of Miss Leonelle Gamble of St. Louis. The table was decorated with lilies-of-the-valley and violets. Covers were laid for Miss Gamble, Miss Fannie Ehrhardt of Beardstown, Jr., Miss Alma Putnam, Miss Dorothy Putnam, Mrs. Fon L. Johnson and Mrs. Love, a 3k 3 OF Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wiggins, No. 1612 Connor avenue, who were married last Thursday, were surprised Monday night by a number of his friends, who pre sented them with a set of silver knives, forks and spoons.
