The mos* destructive of the stimulants, are, tobacco and alcoholic drinks. Although alcohol has been termed the king of depredator on human welfare—yet it is the sober conviction of many who have thought upon the subject, that tobacco has now reached the supremacy in destroying energy. It has been said, and thus far left uncontradicted. that there is more money paid annually in the United States, for the single article of Segars, than is expended on all the public schools of the land. What a comment on the love of education in proud, free, intelligent America, to say that her citizens, squander more on one ruinous appetite, than they give to feed the soulsto the subject. But let not a friend when the chord of eai th shall sound har-of humanity rest, until the thought npens into energetic and effective action, tor the removal of the blighting curse. Let no man who claims the love of liberty for himself, ever, by voiee or act, do aught to uphold the institution; never by his vote, assist the practicer, or appologists of slavery to any office in the gift of a free people, for we may rest assured, that those who crush the black man will not hesitate to snatch liberty froui the white one, whenever c.:p»icc and power iombine^toYeSnjjpjt desirsbft. The commercial relations of society, and of nations, also open wide afield of thoughtto those who would moro effectually harmonize the relations of man. How to supply ourselves with all the necessaries and comforts of life, without so many exorbitant profits being taken, between the producer and the consumer, should be the object ofmonious music on the lyre of the Universe. We feel that our duty to the Allwise source of being, and our desire for the progress of our kind, compel us to contribute our mite of strength, to produce so desirable a state of humanity, by casting all our influenoe against the obstacles that stand opposed to the highest good of the race, and for the establishment of health instead of disease; for freedom, mental and physical, instead of slavery of the same kinds; of love for hatred; of benevolence for abandoned selfishness; of universal charity and toleration for the revilings and proscriptions of the present; of harmony for jarring discord; anl finally for the reign of the spiritual over the material. When the triumph of the good and pure shall be complete, then shall the harmonized millions of earth, rejoiceof their children. Then by chowing] thorough and general organization of in tho morning rays of the Meiennialmillions of the habitations of immortal I all those who usefully employ their spirits, are filled with an ever outflow- j powers of mind and body; and bying stench, that render them loathsome, to all those, not reeking with the same impurity. By the use of tobacco the physical being is inharmoniz-ed, therefore plunged into disease as a direct consequence. But it is not so much for this reason, that we now allude to it, as for its effect upon thethis means give more time to all classes to cultivate the intellectual, social and spiritual tendencies of our nature. That dread scourge ojf humanity, War, still holds its iron away over the nations of the earth.
