NEW RICHMOND — The Mon dovi Buffaloes, behind the 22-point effort of Dave Nelson, knocked off defending champion New Rich mond 48-45 in overtime Friday as the Middle Border Conference season got underway. Mondovi (1-0, 3-0), which won just five conference games last season, had the best of an evenly played first half and lead by five at intermission. But New Richmond grabbed a two-point edge after three quarters, then had a chance to win with eight seconds left in the game. But two missed free throws sent the game into overtime tied at 43-43. In the extra frame, Mondovi stole the ball off the tip-off and scored.
