When the H S Railroad was built through Taylor county in 1881, the citizens of Memory moved the necessary mile east to the railroad, and thus the town of New Market was established.By 1910 there were 800 persons in New Market. Business establishments included four general stores, two meat markets, two hardware stocks, two racket stores, two millinery stores, three restaurants, one furniture and undertaking establishment.Also, two harness shops, one lumber yard, one stock and grain dealer, one agricultural implement dealer, two blacksmith shops, three livery barns and one band.There were four churches, Methodist, Baptist, Christian and Mennonite.Herald-Journal 1938mm..The picture of the pony and buggy with small girl and doll is of Eva Feme [Clark] Jetton. Tall man with beard is Charles Clark,my grandfather, my mother Mrs. Ben [Zens] Clark and great-uncle, Andrew Sharbondy.
