NEW HAMPTON (AP) The brutally beaten body of a 43-year-old saleslady was dis covered alongside her car in a field yesterday by one of her four grown children, State Police Investigator F. G. Dirschka said Mrs. June Barnes of this Orange County Community was a homicide vic tim. He said she had been “bat tered about the head with a heavy object” which he refused to identify. Mrs. Barnes lived with her husband, Roy, a New Haven Railroad employe. Their chil dren lived away from home. One of two daughters, Miss Marie Barnes, a school teacher, found her mother's body after spotting the latter's car off Golf Course Road, Dirschka said. He said it was not determined if Mrs. Barnes had been sexual ly attacked. She was last seen at 5 p.m. Saturday when she left the Mid dletown dress shop where she worked, Dirschka said. He said it was not unusual that she was not home when her husband arrived from work that evening. Barnes awoke around 5 a.m. yesterday and, still not finding his wife home, notified his children who helped him launch a search. They checked with State Police at 7:30 am. a half-hour before Marie spotted her mother’s car, about three miles from home. The victim’s wallet was miss ing, police said, but it was not known how much, if any, money had been in it.
