Perth, Saturday A double tragedy occurred 4 mile from Chidlows ' Well. Two settlers named George Howe and James Lord were fixing a pump in a well. The former went down and was overcome with foul air. He fell to the bottom. Lord seem ingly, went to his aid, and met alike fate. The bodies were recovered with grappling irons In the December Stakes, the betting was: [0 to 9 Jolly Beggar 5 to 2 High Rock. The favorite saw to the pace, but at the turn Mistico was threatening danger, being only half a length away, while High Rock was close up. Mistico just headed the favorite at the distance, but Jolly Beggar came again, and won nicely by a head, while High Rock was a poor third. Time 1.56.
