Plan to Have Government Construct Highway From New York to San Fran cisco Is Boosted, CHICAGO, Dec. 1.—A transcontinental highway stretching in an unbroken lne from New York to San Francisco—thlisks the plan of motor enthusiasts gathered at the Coliseum automobile show. The road, however, is not planned merely for the benefit and use of automobiles, but for farmers and drivers of hhorne-drawn vehicles. The idea, which Jong has beeno dream of good road advocates, received fresh Impetia last night when Charles (¥. Thatcher, known throughout the country is the “food roads apostle,” artrived en route for Washington. Backed by an organization known as the Knights of the Golfen Chain, with a membership of 25,000, as well as the moral and financial assistance of scares of mo tor clubs, Mr. Thatchar expects to do much in the direction of attaining fed eral assistance this winter.
