SPORTS HESPERIA — The Lady Aztecs fought val iantly but didn’t have enough to come from behind as they fell to Hesperia Monday. 47- 43 Senior guard Rose Duran led Barstow with 12 points, including two 3-pointers, as Yvonne Hijoe added eight points (two 3s). The Lady Aztecs (2-3 overall) led 14-9 after the first period and went into the locker room tied with the Lady Scorpions, 26-26. Barstow then fell behind after the third, 38- 31, but closed to within 41-40 before falling in the closing minutes. Barstow was 11-for-23 at the free throw line and was playing its fifth game in a row with out practice. “We are looking forward to practice tomor row,” first-year BHL coach Beth Injasoulian said. “We'll get a chance to work on things that have come up over the last five games, the weaknesses we’ve discovered.” Julie Danieles added seven points for Bar stow while Somer Bonar and Roberto Chavez both had five apiece. The Lady Aztecs were also playing without starting senior forward Laura Kurisu, who was out sick. “T was very proud of the way they hung in there,” said the coach. “They're just an out standing team, they never stop working as a team.” Barstow (2-8) will battle another future Mo jave River League opponent Friday when it faces Victor Valley on the road. “What really matters to me is that we’re preparing for league,” the coach said. “Free throw was by far our weakest point. We also didn’t take enough shots tonight (from the field).” The Lady Aztecs have yet to play a home game and have six consecutive games on the road before hosting Pacific on Jan. 3. “It’s tough to be on the road so much, espe cially the four in a row at San Bernardino,” Injasoulian said. “But there’s nothing you can do about that. And when it comes to league we’re seven home and seven away — league (play) is all that matters.” new Darrald Bennett / Staff Photographer Barstow’s Tanya Miller (14) wrestles with Hesperia’s Magi Cooper (center) during Monday’s non-league basketball game at Hesperia.
