★ Minister(Continued from Pg. 17.) them and preach to them. It’s just like being a doctor, he takes a lot of time to diagnose their case but just a few minutes to write a prescription.”Then, on the subject of ‘,‘old time religion,” he says, ‘‘There is nothing new under the sun. Jesus said ‘I am the way’ That’s the old way. That’s the old time, backwood, calico way of putting sparkles in your eyes and hallelujahs in your soul.“The world is getting in the church, now, and it’s pushing out the Lord. There hasn’t been the evangelical work that there use to be. We don’t take Christianity seriously, we’re playing at it. He (Christ) said he’d come as a thief in the night but i the people aren’t ready for him. The people don’trespect the sabbath.”People could easily dismiss those comments as out of fashion and out of date. But Rev. Aker is not out of touch with modern day society. Nor is he i against progress and technology. “There has beengreat progress in our schools,” he says. In a different discussion, he adds, “I’m all for modem science when it stays within the Bible.” •Another interesting aspect of the Baptist minister is that he believes in astrology in predicting the future. “I was in Lynchburg last year and I told a preacher that \ve were going to have one of the worst droughts ever seen. And he said what are the signs? I said the stars and the sun because the Bible says the stars arid the sun ate fof sriaS6n5f.^ii^ lrisii ’ week, that preacher wrote back and said that, indeed, we’d had one of the worst droughts worldwide that we’ve ever had. And this year, I predict we’ll have a very cold winter.”1 He began his ministry 85 years ago in his nativetown of Marion. Since thenhe has been a teacher 1 and preacher and seen much of the eastern U.S.,especially Virginia and Tennessee where he has ^ visited every county in the two states.1 Now Aker is kept busy making tours givingr revivals and other ministries. He is scheduled for3 every month of the next three years including aJ possible preaching tour of Japan. And he plans to live long enough to meet all of e those obligations.d “I’ve been praying that if it’s the Lord’s will thate I’ll be present when the Lord comes. The book says* there’ll be signs like earthquakes in diverse placesi and there have been 15 in the last year. ”s “People write to Oral Roberts and ask him tos pray for them so that their troubles will be ended,l Oral Roberts isn’t any better acquainted with theLord than lam. You’ve got to be willing to pray.”
