Joseph Allen Dies After Long IllnessMAYNARD — Joseph A. Allen, age 80, and residing1 at 14 Walcott St., passed away Sunday morning at the Sunny Nook Nursing Home in Carlisle. Mr. Allen had been ailing for some time, but that fact did not lessen the grief of his many riends when they where informed of his death. He was born in Maynard and had been a life long resident. He was proprietor of the Allen Cafe for many years. In his younger days he was regarded as an excellent baseball ployer and had few peers when playing the second base position. He was a charter member of the Maynard Lodge of Elks.Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Mary J. (Frazier) Allen, one son Paul A. Allen of Maynard and two daughters Mrs. Dorothy Gothorpe of West Acton and Mrs. Kathryn Gleason of Lowell.Funeral was held Wednesday morning at 8 from the Sheehan White Funeral Home, 4 Bancroft St. followed by a requiem High Mass at St. Bridget’s Church. Fr. Michael Sullivan -was celebrant of the Mass. Mrs. Morgan Foley w'as the organist and James Farrell, soloist.
