An unusual case was recorded in Judge Thomas C. Murphys Probate Court Tuesday, when Mrs. Minnie Lee, colored widow of On Lee, a 78-year-old Chinese laundryman of this city entered her claim to the estate of the deceased common law Oriental husband. Mrs. Lee, who is 31 years of age, claims that she was not only em ployed in On Lee’s laundry at 11,265 Gratiot avenue, but was al so his common law wife. She argu ed that her dead husband had giv en her $175 in cash and a check for $2,292, just prior to his death and the widow petitioned that the court appoint an administrator in her be half. Six Chinese appeared in court in protest to Mrs. Lee’s claim. One of the Chinese, 87-year-old blind re puted uncle of the deceased, named Lee Poy testified that On Lee mar ried in China 45 years ago, and that his wife and children are still lve Chi owe ee eather of Mrs. Minnie . Lee was then set aside, for lack of proof. Judge Murphy appointed Haver Northmore administrator, and ordered him to trace on Lee’s assets and determine if his widow and children live in China.
