GALL IT GIGANTIC FAKE.George R. Dedman of Alaska, Laughs at Story of Order of Midnight Sun.Seattle, Nov. 2'.).—The alleged eon-1 eocted plan of a thousand members of i the so-ealled Order of the Midnight Sun j to overthrow Canadian power in the Yukon territory, is said by George R. Redman, proprietor of the Golden North j hotel at Skagwav, to be the greatest hoax of the season. When seen at the Oilier hotel Mr. Dedman said:“The sensational story is the biggest fake I ever heard of. There is positively i not a bit of truth in it. 1 happen to know just how the tale started, and w ill tell you about it.“Two miners were drinking at a Skag-way bar, and incidentally one of them remarked that the Canadian government had only about 250 mounted police to cover a territory of 000 miles, and what an easy matter it would be for 1,000 men to march upon the territorv and take everything in sight. They were only ‘joslung’ when they were talking. A San Francisco newspaper man was standing near and heard the remarks, lie was short of news anyhow and the ‘ hot air’ gave him an idea, so he manufactured the story that was printed. The Order of the Midnight Sun was made out of whole cloth. There is no such order in existence.“Col. Primrose of the mounted police heard of the story and came to Skagwav to investigate it. He, of course, found nothing in it, but the mere fact that an otticiul investigated, gave the correspondent grounds to insist that there was something in it.“The published story that certain persons in Skagwav had in their possession the seals of the Order of the Midnight Sun, is the biggest joke of it all. The same fellows who started the tale, later joked with the correspondent and told him to say that the seals were in existence and that they would produce them for a certain sum of money. You know he wrote a story about the seals anyhow, as any wide-awake Alaskan newspaper correspondent would do.”C. L. Gilbert, a Yukon steamboatman, also denounces the story as a big joke.
