THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Ivy League powers Dartmouth and Yale and “independent” Tufts each placed two players on the 1957 All - New England football team announced by The Asso ciated Press. The so-called major colleges cap tured six of the first team berths, with members of small college squads grabbing the other five. The Dartmouth representatives are Joe Palermo, a husky guard who was a key factor in the Big Green’s successful season, and Dave Moss, a fine pass-receiving end who sparkled on defense. Yale’s Mike Cavallon, a 6-4 end who helped the Elis wreck Prince ton and Harvard, was a top choice 23 the other flankman, while team mate Gene Coker, a pile-driving fullback, earned a first team back field spot. Halfback Paul Abrahamian, a speedy, elusive runner, and George Kurker, a 252-pound tackle con sidered a fine pro prospect, were the selections from Tufts. Abra hamian led New England in indi vidual scoring with 92 points on 14 touchdowns and eight conversions in eight games. Tom Greene of Holy Cross and Bob Ripley of Norwich round out the backfield. Greene, a slick-pass ing quarterback, was one of the nation’s top total offense leaders with 1,381 yards gained in the air and on the ground in nine games. Ripley, a fine halfback, was cho sen over many other fine backs because of his amazing feats this year. The 185-pound junior led the East—including both major and small colleges—in rushing by car rying the ball 170 times for 978 yards. His yardage was more than half the entire Norwich team gained. Don Warburton, an All-Ivy cen ter for Brown, received the nod at the pivot position, while Tom Meehan of Boston College was awarded a guard spot. The other tackle position was won by Bill Hedeman, a 225-pound Williams Junior. Rated by his coaches as the best tackle in the East, Hedeman was a defensive standout for this year’s unbeaten Eohmen. He scored twice on punts he blocked during the campaign. The first team includes six sen iors and five juniors. The line averages nearly 211 pounds, with Kurker the heaviest at 252 and Palermo the lightest at 190. The backfield averages 191 pounds, with Greene the lightest at 185. Center—Lou Pitney, New Haven Teachers. Backs—Don Allard, Boston Col lege, Les Plumb, Springfield, Dick Winterbauer, Yale, and Maury Stein, Brandeis.
