LETTER TO THE EDITORRELIEF OF SUFFERING IN IRE-LAND.New York. Nov. 23. 1920.To the Editor:Numerous inquiries have reached and continue to reach me from all sections of the United States relative to distress in Ireland and the adoption of adequate and appropriate measures towards its relief. I find it Impossible to deal with the large volume of such communications, and accordin'-; ly deem it well to state through the press for general information the position and the problems requiring solu lion in Ireland at this time. The situation resolves itself briefly into the following details:The transportation and distribution of foodstuffs within the country now practically at a standstill in three provinces.Unemployment consequent on the shutdown of the railroads, the destruction of creameries, shoeplants, hosiery factories, aerated water concerns, printing and retail establishments.Reconstruction of homes and property generally which have been destroyed. These matters of transportation and distribution, unemployment and recon structlon. indicate the directions wherein relief must he had to he effective.A detailed plan is at present under consideration and a definite scheme of operation will shortly be evolved and made public. The opportunity will then be at band for all American sympathisers with our much-suffering people in Ireland to help alleviate the heavy ills of which they are now the involuntary victims.Yours very truly,J.
