BOYS BURIED IN SAND PITDUG CAVE AND RAIN WEAKENED WALLS.Sad Tragedy in Walkerton Results in Death of Sons of Two . Families.Vernon Gripe, 14, and Walter Brans, sixteen years of age, two Walkerton toys, were suffocated to death Sunday by the caving in of a cave or dugout they had dug in a sand pit.The only support of a widowed woman, who had adopted him when he was a little boy, Evans, with Cripe, set out for the pit Sunday. It was raining and the two boys decided to spend the day in the cave they dug in the pit. How long they romped is not known, but it is thought they were suffocated late in | the afternoon.Boys Were Suffocated.! It is believed that the recent rains J weakened the dugout, and made the sand heavy.Neither of the boys were missed until dark. When they did not return for supper, a search was insti- j tuted, and as they were seen going towards the pit, the searchers went there at once. !Their fate was quiclcly realized! when the searchers reached the pit-The sand had caved in, and it was evident that the hoys were buried! deeply. Shovels were hastily secured. In two hours the body of the Gripe hoy was reached. Sometime later the lifeless form of young Evans w'as hauled forth.The lifeless forms of the two boys were carried to their respective homes. No inquest will be held as it Is evident that is* was purely an accident. The land is owned by the railroad.
