I tut mie 11 an invention is possible. In an age of prugrens like thin we should not be surprised to hear ol such a thing. Hundreds of people tell us they have seen it, and many of those hundreds are men of intelligence and standing. Therefore we should not make haste to denounce the reports as false and ridiculous. Mam years ago we laughed at the telephone, and but a few years since we laughed at the phonograph. We laughed at many other such UiingH, and yet they are all realities, in this particular case not only do wo have the words aC eye-witnesses but the words as well of those who know of the inventor. There is much in the matter for jest and merriment, but jest and merrlt;ment oiten travel with things t hat are real. It is barely prob-ahlo that the airship now soars the skies above us. On last .Saturday evening two gentlemen of this city went up to Potter Valley. They were Or. E. G. Case,High Chief Ranger of the Order of Foresters, and Wm. Held, Jr. When entering the valley and while passing the place of Samuel Noil, they wore suddenly startled by the appearance above them of a huge bright light. Accompanying the light was a noise, and instantly their horses took fright, one of them jumping from the road. For the time being their afc-| tent ion was directed to the team, but when thov were enablfld to look up they beheld what convinced the n was themuch discussed air ship. It seemed to be about 4DO feet high and was traveling at remarkable speed. From appearance they judged it to be sixty feet in length, and less than twenty feet wide, having the shape very closely of a cigar. There was considerable noise, evidently produced by the motive machinery, and the light was particularly brilliant. From the fact of great speed and the heading of this Bhip in i ho direction of Redding it is presumed the two are the same.An interview had with Dr Case elicited the above information and residents of Potter Valley substantiate his statements.With an air ship perfected, as it evidently now seems, it would appear but a short time until the transportation business, especially as to mail carrying, will undergo an appreciable change.1
