From the Son thorn Star. nD | DEMOCRATIC Sc STATE RIGHTS MEET- !e-Y-toilr,i1NG.In Covington county—pursuant to public notice a large and respectable number of the citizens of* this county assembled in the court v house in Williamsburg on Monday the 19th day of November, wlien on motion, Hiram II at horn i was called to the chair, and Dr. John Gurtmau a appointed Secretary. The object of the tj r? meeting being explained by Col. Thomas H,J I Hopkins, (be having been called on to do so,)*e who moved that a committee of seven be up- C jtr pointed to draft a preamble and resolutions o expressive of the sense of this meeting. The p chairman appointed G. D. Patti more, Aaron tj t. ! Pickering, J. L. Jolly, G. D. Gere, William , 1 Leggitt, Samuel 15. Hat born, and Win. Loftin, ** ’Y j said committee who after a few minutes ab- It a- I sencc. reported the following preamble and . n resolutions which was unanimously adopted: ! cWhereas our Democratic friends in many j. of the counties of this State has deemed it proper and necessary to hold public meetings « to devise ways and means by which they can V houorably sustain the principles which it ever 0 has been their pride and glory to avow—and n believing that object can better be promoted by the contemplated convention to be held in 1 the city of Jackson on the 8th of January next-1* Therefore Resolved, That we cordially | is approve of holding a state convention in the rj city of Jackson the 8th of January next.2. Resolved, That nine Delegates to wit, , Samuel B. Uuthom, Aaron Pickering, J. Watts sen., P. C. Duckworth, G D. Patterson, D r. John Gartmau, James L. Jolly, Jesse Buckhol-ter, and Samuel Hathorn, be appointed delegates to represent this Co. in said convention.3. Iiesoivcd, That cur delegates be instructed to vote for such men as they shall in the;r wisdom deem best calculated to.sustain and carry out those glorious principles contained in ihc Virginia and Kentucky resolutions of '98 and ?99.4.
