ALTOONA — A driving layup by Najib Schlosstein with 12 sec onds left broke a 58-58 tie and gave Mondovi’s Buffaloes a 60-58 win over Altoona in an exciting non conference boys’ basketball duel Tuesday night. Mondovi (2-0) came from four points behind in the last quarter to upend the Railroaders (0-2). The Rails turned over the ball in the closing seconds after Schlosstein’s shot put the Buffaloes ahead. Mondovi took a 21-14 lead in the first quarter, but Altoona struck back for a 34-32 halftime margin and made it 47-44 at the third stop. The Buffaloes pulled out the win in a 17-11 fourth quarter. Dave Nelson, 6-foot-2 forward, led Mondovi with 22 points. Tony Watt scored 16 and Joe Grill 12 in Altoona’s well-balanced attack. Both teams shot well. Mondovi made 23 of 46 field-goal attempts and 14 of 25 from the line. Altoona hit 24 of 50 from the field and 10 of 14 from the line. The Rails had a 28-20 edge in rebounds but lost that advantage by turning the ball over 15 times to the Buffaloes’ eight. MIS ETES.
