Impressive ServicesPay Last Respects to Mrs. W. F. CottrellMrs. Alice McGubbin Cottrell. 86. passed away Saturday, Nov. 26 in. the Iron County Hospital at Cedar City.She was born Aug. 12. 1873, in Kansas, to John Edward and Lucy Watson McCubbin As a small child she suffered from arthritis, an ailment from which she later became crippled.She married William Franklin Cottrell May 31, 1891. at Huntington, Oregon Mr. Cottrell passed away April 26, 1936.The came to Milford in 1904 from Idaho Falls. Idaho. Mr. Cottrell was the first Union Pacific car foreman, engine carpenter and track foreman at Milford.Mrs. Cottrell was a devout church worker. She was one of the founders of the Protestant Sunday School, organized in Milford July 7, 1905. At that time there were no funds but they carried on with a few Bibles. Most of 1he songs were memorized because of the shortage of songbooks, and the Cottrell home was always open for their meetings. At that time they were living in a house on Ihe east side of the railroad.Sac held many offices in the church. For many years she was president of ihe Ladies Aid Society. There was no Red Cross or other welfare organization in Milford, and the ladies wore active in assisting the sick and needy.In 1.918 she accepted chairmanship of the Milford Red Cross Chapter and held that position until 1930.She was interested in civic activities and public education for youth. She was instrumental in establishment of the first high school in Milford. But with all tjpr community activities, her first consideration was always for her home and family, and she was a devoted wife and motherSix children were born to the couple. Two died in early childhood and a son Roy passed away recently.Surviving are two daughters. Mrs William (Della) Gray, Salt Lake, and Mrs. Joseph (Myrtle) Tribole, Milford; a son. Dr. Fred Cottrell, a professor at Mia.ni College, Oxford, Ohio; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.Funeral sendees were conducted Nov. 30th in the Milford Methodist Church under direction of Rev. Mrs. Myrtle White. The services were as follows:Prelude and postlude music, Mrs. Milton Pool.Vocal solo. “Beyond tihe Sunset'’ and “Gome to the Garden.” Victor Muzny.Tribute, Mrs. Pool.Original Histroy of the Church, written by Mrs. Cottrell, was read by Mrs. White, who also offered consoling remarks and Scripture pasages.Pallbearers were Bill Tribole, Frank Tribole, Ross Cottrell, Lee Gray Jr.. Oaklcvy Nelson and Norman Baxter.Out of town relatives attending the services included Ross Cottrell' Mr. and Mrs. William Lee Gray and son Lee Jr., of Salt Lake; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Tribole, Bountiful; Frank Tribole, and Mr. and Mrs. Oakley Nelson of Long Beach. Cal.Burial was in the Milford City Cemetery.
