Moore GuiltySecond«DegreeMurderThe jury in the Millard Moore murder trial returned a verdict of second degree murder yesterday afternoon, after eight and a half hours of deliberation.District Judge Lewis McLaughlin granted the defense five days in which to file a motion for a new trial before passing sentence.Judge McLughtin gave the jury six alternatives: first degree murder with the death penalty; first degree murder with life imprisonment; second degree muffler, first degree manslaughter; innocence by reason of insanity; or innocence.Moore, a former grocer herewas charged with first degree murder in the slaying of his wife August 11 at the Moore home. The defense contended that Moore; was innocent by reason of insanity while the prosecution held that he was guilty as charged.Moore, who had cut his hands off in a meat saw at his grocery store following the shooting, had entered a pl$a of not guilty.The jury retired to deliberate Friday afternoon after four days of testimony. The trial started Tuesday morning.
