Vandiver for a survey of Ga. to deter-t mine what counties were (1) in greatest need of further in-: dustrial-zution, (2) were doing ; most to improve their present status, and (6) which offered greatest inducments to South bound industries; Mr. Vincent Jones, Assistant Director of the Ga. Dept, of Commerce,1 accompanied by Dr. George 1 Whit)ash 8s Mr. J. R Peterson : Research Engineers of Georgia t Tech’s Engineering Experiment Station, Capt Garland Peyton, State Geologist, and . Mrs. Peyton, came to Daw-sonville Monday morning. They were met by Rep. Henry Taylor, Mayor Maddox, Mr. Ralph Bowen, Mr. Roscoe Tucker and others and were excorted to points of Interest in Dawson county, including a visit to our attractive and ■ efficiently operated Sweet- ■ Orr Plant. ‘Then accompanied by Messrs. Taylor, Bowen and Tucker, i our distinguished visitors went I to Dahlonega, where they 1 were met by Senator-elect i Erwin Owens Rep. elect j Fred C. Jones, Jr., W. B. Fry 1 and others, lunched at the 1 Smith House and were shown ! some oi the splendid unde- 1 veloped water powers which i have been roaring to waste for thousands of years while ■ many of our male citizens com mute more than 100 miles per i day in order to get to work in 1 Marietta, Atlanta and eise lt;, where. i; Dawson Co. has its garment ( f factory, Lumpkin Co. has its • carpet factory, but both of these institutions are operated i principally by women. What J I we desperately need is the . harnessing of one or more of these majesti water powers, ( , the erection of a plant for the , manufacture of some staple product, the employing of seme 150 to 200 of our Daw- ( . son 8b Lumpkin county men,' and we are hopeful that this team of experts can help us 1 realize our economic dreams.i * '
