Have fol lowed your Items on the Covenhov ens with great Interest. In Oct. 28 issue I note D.V.P. asks about a Brooklyn family named Kouwen hover. I cannot give any Informa tion about this family, but it so happens that my maiden name was Koppenhoefer and my own family group left Germany during the 1848 Revolution there. Not long ago in an adv. of an antique shop, the name Copenhaven was used. I wrote for a circular, mentioning the similarity of the pronunciation to my name, I rea'd a very nice let ter from this lady. She stated her family history to some extent. She also said the Copenhavers were the Danish branch, the Copenhovens the Dutch branch, we all originat ed in Germany, the Koppenhoefers being the German group. She stat ed there was 4 family reunion of people of these names at Harris burg every five years and offered to give the name of hosts, but I did not follow it up further at the tme. In the book called “Power” by Leon Feuchtwanger of Germany, a historical novel of the 15th century period, Martin Luther, etc., there is a frequent mention of my name, in the person of a reformer and col lege professor of that period, I re cently read the name of Marie Kop penhoefer as an actress In a Ger Man movie program. All this leads to one question. Do you know if others of this Kowenhoven family trace their origin to Germany? If so, could there be any way of find ing out how the author, Feucht wanger, came to use the name in his historical novel. Perhaps the Danish and Dutch groups left Ger many due to political or religious troubles during the 15th century? In the Winfield section of Brooklyn, which is now included in the area of Queensboro near the World Fair Grounds, live the only Koppenhoef ers whom I have ever met in this country and they are my only (dis tant) relatives. I offer, perhaps, nothing of value, unless the com ment of Mrs. Marion Copenhaven, of Copenhaver, Va., who mentioned the connection of the names. Per haps someone may have something in the ancestries of the Covenhov ens which might interest me too, ‘ CMM. 64, COVENHOVEN, Information te Cornelius Kouwenhoven of Flat lands, N.
