On Wedneeday night last, a daring burglary -was committed at Lidgate. About a quarter before 12 o’clock at night, Mr. Baldry was disturbed by a noise at his bed-room door; he exclaimed, “What are you after?” and immediately two men, much disguised, their faces being enveloped in handkerchiefs, and their legs tied up with pieces of an ola coat which had been left in a field near the house, entered the room. They threw themselves on him, and he resisted, and pulled a cap on one of them, who, however, declared that if he did not return it he would blow his brains out. He could not see if the men were armed. They then said it would be better for Mr. Baldry if he were gentle, and stated that they would have his money, watch, pocket book, bilver spoons, and plate. Mr. Baldry gave up further resistance, and while one 01 the men watched nis and the housekeeper’s room, by staying on the landing between them, the other searched his clothes, from which he took 13s. in silver, a purse, and a key; after which he went to the housekeeper’s room, and striking a light with a lucifer match, u box of which he had left with him, he lit her candle, took 4s. from a table-drawer, and went away with the key of the keeping-room, from a closet in which he took a large table spoon and four tea spoons. In the meantime, Mr. Baldry had slipped out of bed unobserved by the man on watch, and thrown himself, with but his shirt on, his clothes having been carried down stairs, out of the bed-room window, and gave an alarm to the village. It is probable that the man below heard him giving the alarm, as he called to the other, “ Come down; he is out, and both directly made their escape by the back kitchen window. They had previously prevented egress for parties from the house by the back kitchen door, by tying it up with a plough cord. They appear to have effected au entrance by the cellar window Mr. Baldry is unable to recognise either of the men.Child Stealing,—On Wednesday a servant of Mr. Hellens, of Wolverley Street, Hackney Road, was sent with an infant of her master, aged four months, to Whitechapel, and as she was returning she was accosted by a fashionably dressed female, who asked her to go to a neighboring shop for some trifling ; article, offering to nold the infant during the nurse’s absence. The nurse, IltUe suspecting that a trick was intended, handed the infant to the lady and went on her message. Upon bar return neither the lady nor infant was to be found, and although every effort has been made, no due has as yet beat had to either the one or the other,
