The victorious 394th officers championship basketball team was composed of: top row, left to right, Bill Engelmann, Fred Duncan, Col. Lester MacGregor the regimental commander, Bill Catlin, and Boyd McCune. Bottom row, S to r, Dewey Plankers and John Collins. Missing from the photo were John Haymaker, Fred Lytle, and Earl Smart. In late March, 1943, the team defeated the Div. Arty, team to win the officers’ division championship. On March 23,1943, the 394th Inf. enlisted men’s team defeated the 393rd to become the undefeated cage champions of the 99th Division. Photo supplied by John Collins, Sv/394.
