An Old Reb.I recently met with one of my old comrades and after the usual congratulations, he requested me to write a hind of reminiscence of our company which left Hernando for the war in the spring or early summer of 1SG2. We were the Flag company of the 42ud Mississippi regiment, commanded byH K. Miller, of Pontotoc, who was then circuit judge of this dis trict. Our company numbered 125 stalwart men. When we left Hernando, DeSoto could well brag on us as being the best company of the county. Our officers were Captain, Pail Smith; 1st Lieul.Jim | Nail; 2nd, Oliver Stephens; 3rd,; John Wilburn; Sergeant, Ameri .eus Payne. We went to Rich-! moud. There we were put in Joe| Davis’ Biigade, Heuth’s Division, A. tP. Hill s corps Lee's army. | We did service in North Carolina and Virginia until we made that famous raid in Pennsylvania-. \Ve| were halted at Gettysburg, and there had the tight of the War. j This company from deaths, fur loughs, sickness and details had dwindled tlt; 47 men.
