A pack of cards come to life—a real king of diamonds, and a genuine queen of hearts, the jack of spades and the ace of clubs, ten spots, and deuces, red and blue, white and golden, silks and satins, laces and diamonds, wealth and beauty, in one grand whirl of human life, sustained by ladies and gentlemen in elegant style and courtly grace, to the sound of sweet music, giving to the greatest of games the •charm of beauty and form, poetry and music, and life and soul, as well as furnishing entertainment and pleasure to the multitude.To the lovers of the game of whist the entertainment given at Goss’ hall a Horded great satisfaction. At the hourpf8:30 p.m. the grand march began. Then they cumc, first in single file, then by fours and then eight abreast, kings and queens, with their royal following. Each card was represented by a lady or gentleman. Each gentleman wore a scarf over his shoulder upon which was the card lie represented. Each lady wore a fancy dress on which was the card she impersonated, while the kings and queens wore crowns. The order of i he game is as follows:First, grand march.Second, the shuflle.Third, the cut.Fourth, the deal.Each player playing his card by leading the lady or gentleman representing the card he wishes to play.to t lie center of the floor where the four compose a set and *a fine dance was given.There are thirteen tricks taken andas many sets played, and each set hasa different dance and new music.The colors of different cards lastnight were: Clubs, red: spades,pn.k? diamonds, violet, and hearts,white. Hearts were trumps. MessrsCore and Stutenroth were the playersagainst Faincstock and Church.Fainestock and Church won the gameand J. K. Mellette was the cardwhich took the last trick. The danceof the jacks at the close was simplyimmense. They were dressed intights, with diamonds or clubs orspades or hearts all over them.
