The canine kind. se Gus, my 5-year-old En glish bulldog, and I had che mormistry. Or so I thought, until a caught him eyeing a Liber merian husky named Bella at a “=nearby table.. Clearly, he’s the type of Camm UY I'll have to keep on a ““~ short leash. ~ I’m not sure whether there will be another date, but I can thank Gov. Jerry Brown for inspiring this chance at romance. Brown understands my plight. He spends a lot of time with his Welsh corgi, Sutter. The governor recently announced that he had signed Assembly Bill 1965 in to law, allowing dogs to ac company people into restau rants with outdoor seating starting in January. Assembly member Mari ko Yamada authored this bill, which doesn’t obligate restaurants to serve dogs and doesn’t keep local juris dictions from prohibiting it. Lazy Dog Cafe, which has other locations in Brea and Orange in the county, al lowed this practice before the new law, provided the dog is leashed, well-behaved and doesn’t sit on your lap or on the table. Which I wouldn’t want any of my dates - two or four-legged to do anyway. A provision of the law barring restaurant patrons from holding the dog in the lap is a bone some toy dog owners are already picking, pointing out that the health code allows you to hold a diapered baby on your lap or set the infant by your salad. Why not your spn-treat ed, blinged-out Chihuahua? My dog date hit a rough patch when Gus fell asleep under the table, paws out, and snoring. I guess our con versation wasn’t that stimu lating, given he doesn’t read The Register that often. Still, it was enjoyable to have company while out on the town and know I'd take him home for the night. Maybe we'll take a moon lit walk together. CONTACT THE WRITER: nasr rcom
