Reed, Leonard Slated For RTA Advisory UnitEight suburban Cook county officials* were proposed Thursday for membership on the new Metropolitan Area Transportation council (MATC), a group formed to advise the Regional Transportation authority.The eight officials include Gene Leonard, Bremen township assessor, and Mayor Bert H. Reed of Flossmoor.Others proposed by six suburban Republicans on the Cook county board of commissioners are Ixrnis F. Barone, Hanover Park village president; Richard Hechler, treasurer of the North Suburban Mass Transit district; James T. Ryan, Arlington Heights mayor; I,uoella Seida, Westchester village clerk; Richard G. Torpe, Elmwood Park trustee, and David White, mayor of Maywood.THE STATUTE providing for the RTA calls for an advisory council for matters of transportation service, fares and policy.The MATC will consist of 26 members, with 13 to be named by Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley, eight named by the suburban commissioners and one each by the board chairmen of five counties. The counties are DuPage, l^ke, McHenry, Will and Kane.The eight nominees to the MATC are the first announced within Cook county and their appointments may be confirmed at the board’s September 2 meeting.Flossmoor Mayor Reed was elected in 1P73 after a year as a member of the zoning board of appeals. He also is president ofthe South Area Municipal association and has served on the South Suburban Mayors and Managers committee on transportation. He is owner and president of Midwest Products of Illinois arid Aluminum Coating Manufacturing.I/eonard was elected Bremen township assessor in 1969 and was re-elected in 1973. He founded and served on the Bremen ymith committee and was a member of the Oak Forest plan commission.BARONE WAS elected Hanover Park village president in 1973, after serving two years as clerk and a village trustee. He has taken part in planning with the Illinois Department of Transportation and the Milwaukee Road railroad. He is an attorney and member of the Allstate Insurance company claim staff.Hechler is vice-chairman of finance and administration committees and treasurer for the North Suburban Mass Transit district. He is president of the Glenview Countryside Civic association. Hechler is an IBM marketing representative.Ryan, Arlington Heights mayor, is an attorney with the Chicago law firm, Morgan, I^anoff, Cook and Madigan. He served as a village trustee for four years and Ls a formermember of former Gov. Richard B Ogilvie’s Commission on Urban AreaGovernmentMs. beioa,' a cartographer and free-lance artist, served on Gov. Ogilvie’s advisory council before becoming Westchester clerk. She also served as president and state legislative chairperson of the Illinois Federation of Womens' clubs,TORPE, ELMWOOD Park trustee serving his fourth four-year term, is a former secretary of the Suburban Municipal council for O'Hare Field Zoning Regulations. He serves on the board of directors of the Chicago Employee Benefits Foundation. He is an assistant group manager for New York life Insurance.White, Maywood mayor, was a trustee from 1967 to 1973. He was co-chairman of an RTA committee representing the western suburbs prior to the formation of the current RTA.
