Bringing you a touch of sophisticated French sportswear, a feathered millinery confection from one of San Antonio’s favorite designersand, for good measure, the sadstory of the model of the month” who soldiers on despite a large plaster cast!at shirt and skirtFRENCH version of the popular poncho-coatit0.3eByMILDRED WHITE AKERExpress-News Fashion EditorThere’s a lot going on in fashion this week in San Antonio. A tempting slice of it centers on the presentation of French sportswear from Tiktiner.(In case, the name fascinates you as it does me, you might like to know it’s pronounced TICK-ta-neer).From time to time, Frost’s has had a few pieces of the spiffy sportswear, which originates in Nice, France, but this is the first full collection to been shown. The clothes will be informally modeled Wednesday in the Courturier Salon of the North Star Mall store and Thursday on the third floor downtown.Linda Skaldzien of New York is bringing the clothes to town. She’ll be around to “talk fashion” as much as you like.Unfortunately, this reporter hasn’t yet seen the collection, which Miss Skaldzien describes as “feminine, soft and flowing.“Dresses of soft jersey are teamed with ‘over-dresses’ or accented with little capes and peplums,” she says. “Often light and dark shades of the same color are used in a dress or costume.”She’s most excited about the two and three-piece coordinates which she calls the mainstay of every Tiktiner collection.“Even though we call the line sportswear, the look is elegant. Light and dark shades are also seen in the separates, as well as the addition of another color for impact.”SweatersSeparates include sweaters (mostly of light wool with touches of mohair). Likethe Tiktiner shirts, sweaters come with scarves — to be thrown over the shoulders or worn around the neck.Shirts, she notes, are made of a light “diolen” jersey or real French crepe. It’s a sportive line which extends all the way to coats and capes. Coat silhouettes are easy and straight.Colors feature combos of powder rose and taupe, moonstone gray and blue, red and violet. Pinkish parma violet is another favorite. The family-owned firm began some 20 years ago on the Riveria’s palm-fringed Cote d’Azur.NEAR-DISASTER strikes Sue Conyers, Joske's Career broke her leg and fractured her elbow. Shortly after being se- cast poses a fitting problem, she’ll model in Thurs-lected for the September honor by the August Career day’s Career Girl Club show at 6 p.m. in the CamelliaGirl Supper Club audience, Sue stepped in a hole, Room.PHOTO BY STEVE OAMPBEUTiktiner is the maiden name of the president, Dina Viterbo. At the time she started the firm, her three daughters were in school, leaving her plenty of time to fool around with fabrics and designs. Now the daughters — with degrees in law, psychology and fashion technology — are in the business. Husband Henri Viterbo is vice president and general manager.Eldest daughter, Miquette, is the wife of Mort Schrader, president of the new New York fashion firm Abe Schrader Inc. It makes sense that she heads and coordinates the mushrooming American interests of Tiktiner.Remember, we’re talking about clothes in the couture price category. Quality is one of the factors which makes Tiktiner ‘tick’.ShoesThis last past week brought “down-to-earth chats with footwear tycoons visiting Frost Bros. — Werner Marx, president of Amalfi Shoes; and Bert Geller, president of Andrew Geller. Both are optimistic about the future of“better footwear.” And both are excitedabout the many new designs in shoes and the demand for quality by the customers.“Our San Antonio sales in one day were unbelievable,” said Marx. “You have a lot of women of taste in this town,., women who know what they want.”The firms create shoes with starting prices of $24 and $34.News in shoes centers on “dressy” flats on the on^ hand, and the revival of high, high (three-inch) heels on the other. And there’s a tremendous interest — particularly in San Antonio — in colored suede, they agreed.YA- -.vM •.vXvIvMVWy.y. v. v. v- y. y. v. •. v•y.v.v.v.■mm*».v ' V»SV*%V.*.V,
