We wore told an unusual and touching story concerning the death of Jemima E* Bledsoe, 1883-1900 and the devotion of a dog to its mistress. The Bledsoe family lived a-bout a mile west of the cemetery and upon the death of the mother, a casket was built by neighbors and the body lay in the home until the funeral. It was carried to the cemetery in a wagon and most of the people walked behind the funeral cortege.During the time the corpse was in the home, the mother's dog slipped into the house and was found asleep under the casket. It was later recalled that the animal was seen walking under the wagon on the way to the cemetery. The family retrieved the dog several times from the graveside where they found it asleep. However, it refused to eat dr drink and would invariably break away and return to the grave. Three weeks after the funeral, the dog was found dead, upon the grave of its mistress. We are Inclined to tolieve that the sorrow experienced by loved ones following a death is shared by family pots also.SAN SABPhone 372-3241
