Coach LeRoy “Andy” Ander son has taken over the reins controlling the football fortunes at Kohler High School this sea son and he sums up the team’s prospects as “good but lacking depth.” Just returning from a stint as coach at West Division High School in Milwaukee, the lack of depth problem at Kohler is probably more noticeable to An derson than to former head coach Roy Ebben who guided Kohler grid teams for many years and who had grown accus tomed to the perennial lack of numbers at Kohler. However, Anderson has an air of quiet loptimism. When a coach moves into a new assignment, he is faced with the responsibility of first evaluating and placing person nel, then installing his system of play, and finally welding the best offensive and defensive un its all before the opening game which in Anderson's case comes just two weeks from the day of the first practice. Coach, Anderson has eight-let ter winners retiring from the squad which last year posted a 500 rating in six games. Veteran linemen back are Wiliam Weinhold, 203 pound tackle; William Dzwonkowski, 170 pound guard; Jerry Mc Grane, 165 pound tackle; and Paul Koepke. Koepke injured his arm during the summer and will be able to report for prac tice in about a week. Backs who earned awards last season include Jim Boerner, 207 pound fullback; Ronnie Siebel ing, 180 pound halfback; Dick Newton, 170 pound quarterback; Leonard Hug, seatback who won his letter'as a lineman last ‘sea son, ‘and Jim Schoemer. Schoe mer has been attending a special inaual training program and is set to report early next week. Certain to be of help are Jim Gascoigne, 6 foot 4 inch end, who last year attended © Wayland Academy in Beaver .Dam and Westly Koball, 165 pound sopho more who has the inside track for the center job. * Newcomers who have set their sights on starting assignments are Jeff Smith, Leon Lienau, Bill Sprenger, Carl Hocevar, Bob Jones, John..Flader, and Carl Mallmann. All are expected to see considerable action. Other boys likely to make the squad are John Hirsch, Robert Sass, John Hyink,Robert Hiers, Paul Hyink, Joel Thompson, Jim Kerwin, Howie Cerull, Dave Newton, Felix Dzwonkowski, Augie Hocevar and John Angel ‘beck. Melvin Neese is the team's manager. Kohler opens its’ eight-game ‘season when it entertains Crivitz on Friday, Sept 9. Other games include Brussels, Sept. 17, there; Kiel, Sept. 23, there; Oostburg, Sept. 30, there; Brillion, Oct. 7, at Kohler; Central IV, Oct. 14, at Kohler; North IV, Oct. 20 at Kohler and Reedsville, Oct. 28, there. Kohler home games start at 7:30 p.m. at the Kohler Ath letic Field. Anderson plans to lineup in a wing , and then shift into single wing or modified single wing known as the ¥ or into a spread formation. . . On the basis of what he has seen in the limited practice ses ssions so far, Coach Anderson would list his tentative starting lineups like this: Offensive, ends, Smith, or Gascoigne and Spreng er; tackles, McGrane and Wein bold; guards, Lienau and Dzwon kowski; center, Koball, quarter back, Newton; left half, Hug; right half, Siebeling, and full back, Boerner, Hocevar, Jones and Mallmann are first line re placements, Defense: ends, McGrane and Smith; tackles, Weinhold and Gascoigne; middle guard, Dzwon kowski; linebackers, Hocevar, Boerner and Hug; defensive halfs, Siebeling and Mallmann; and safety, Newton, Koball, Flader, Sprenger and Jones, are No. 1 substitutes.
