Romeo A. West Asks $7,500 Judgment Against Wnt; J. Thoraji-kins of Kansas City.Prof, Romeo A. West, formerly connected with the Lincoln Insti-tute faculty of this city, has filed■, \suit in the circuit court here for $7,500 damages against Wm. J. Thompkins of Kansas City.In his petition West alleges that while he was engaged as teacher, secretary and librarian of said Lincoln Institute, on June 19, 1901), said William J. Thmopkins wrote an article printed in a Kansas City publication known as the “Son,”’The article was entitled “Dr. W. J. Thompkins on Recent Happenings at Rincoln Institute/*’ The article in reference thereto is allged in the petition to he as follows: Mrs, Anthony, matron atthe Lincoln Institute, resigned her position because she was removed from the ladies’ dormitory to the boy’s dormitory because she insisted that Prof. West should not call on a lady in her hcom. He alleges that such article insinuated that West was maintaing immoral relations with the young lacly. He alleges in Ms petition that the article was printed maliciously and wickedly. For the above he asks $3,509 actual damages and impun-itive damages to the amount of $4,-000 and costs.
