R. R. Hopkins of Holdrege was in Fairbury the latter part of last week, visiting his son, Dick Hopkins and family. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lock had as guests on Wednesday and Thursday of last week, Mrs. Lock’s brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Downey and son Holmes of York. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Riggle of Truman, Minn., visited Mr. and Mrs. David Riggle and other re latives here, following a visit with relatives of Mrs. Riggle at Brewster, Kas. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Satthoff of Tampa, Tex., announce the birth of a daughter, Janis Carol Aug. 20. Mrs. Satthoff was be fore her marriage, Miss Iva Jean Minnick. Mrs. Earl Dove had as week end guests, her brother and sis ter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R. M. Klitzing of Decatur, Ill. Mr. Klitzing is a former resident of this city. Mr.and Mrs. Carl Clegg and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Berm Clegg and daughter. ~~ Kansas City, were six guests of Mrs. Clegg’s brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs C. J. Galbraith. They alsoi visited Mrs Clegg’s aunt, Mrs. O. H. Hardy and family. Mrs. Clegg was formerly Margaret Gal braith of this city. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Riggins of Lincoln were ‘e Fairbury over Sunday. Visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. T. Woods, Mrs. Homer Deadman and daughter of Lincoln, who have been visiting Mrs. Deadman’s sister-in-law, Mrs. Jack Henney and family, have returned to their home. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Jensen of the Yeakle Jensen Implement company, left Tuesday for Min nesota, where they will spend their vacation fishing. Mrs. A. F. Walker and grand a Rodney, left Tuesday eve nit for Detroit, where they visit their daugh and aunt, Mrs. R. M. Stewart and Dr. Stewart. They expect to return before school begins. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Allen and children, Shirley and Clifford, who have made their home in Fairbury for the past seven years, are moving soon to San Leandro, Cal., where they ex pect to make their home per manently. Miss Shirley Allen has been employed as operator at the local telephone office for the past year. Miss Rose Hinnen and sister, Mrs. Mary Wilber of Horton, Kas., are spending a few weeks in Fairbury, visiting relatives before going on to California for the winter months. Bob Mathis has returned to California, having enjoyed his vacation visiting his grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Lintz. He is the son of Mrs. Florine Matthis of Los Angeles, Cal. Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Willard of Norfolk were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Andy Lintz Sunday. Mrs. Willard is Mr. Lintz’ sis ter. C. W. Keefer of St. Joseph, Mo., who is well known in Fairbury and Reynolds, has been seriously ill since July 1, when he suffered a stroke of paralysis. His niece, Miss Etta Hansmire is making her home with him and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hansmire and Mrs. Lucy Hansmire have made frequent trips to St. Joseph since his ill ness. At present, Frank Hans mire of Lincoln is at his bed side. G T .Boone, instructor in vocational agriculture at Fair bury high school, attended a vocational agricultural refer ence in Lincoln last week. P. Grant Koontz of Amarillo, Texas, was in Fairbury the first of the week visiting his sister, Nellie Koontz, and at tending to business matters. He missed by a week getting to see his sister, Jessie Koontz, who had visited here before starting to Hawaii, where she will teach. She had been teach ing at a relocation center in Hawaii. He states that his brother has for some time been engaged in research work for the government in New Mexico, presumably the atomic bomb experiments. The Koontz fam ily are former residents of this city. Leaving Tuesday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Carl Humphrey at Mullen were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Heasty, Mrs. Mercedes, Darrah, Mrs. Arthur Bailey and daughters, Patti and Suzi. Mrs. Robert W. Salen will return this week from Cali fornia, where she has spent the past several weeks. She visited her husband, Ensign Salen at San Diego, before going to Hollywood to visit Mrs. Ralph Corbett and Mr. Corbett. Mrs. Corbett was before her mar riage, Miss Jeanne Friesen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Friesen of this city. Mrs. Mercedes Darrah was in Lincoln last week, visiting Mrs. Carl Manthey and family, while enjoying a vacation from her work as a stenographer in the office of Denney Denney. Harry Potter of Omaha spent the weekend with his mother, Mrs. H. E. Potter. Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Garrett left Saturday for points in In diana, where they will visit relatives while Mr. Garrett is convalescing from an arm frac ture. Miss Lillian Schoenrock, who has been employed in Lincoln for the past few years, has gone to Denver, where she has a nice clerical position. Miss Helen Brandes has re turned to Chicago following a week’s visit with her mother, Mrs. C. H. Brandes and Fair bury friends. Mrs. R. P. Fitzgerald and children are leaving Sunday for Denver, where they will join Capt. Fitzgerald, who is now on the staff at Fitzsimmons hos pital. Mrs. Fitzgerald and chil dren have made their home with her mother, Mrs. Bud T. Bagley since Capt. Fitzgerald left for overseas duty more than two years ago. Miss Arlene Wilson of Aus tin, Texas, returned to Texas Tuesday, having visited her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Wilson and brother Dale and other relatives and friends. Miss Mavis Wilson joined the family for a weekend visit at the home of their parents. Mr. and Mrs. John Hatz and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Hatz were called to Sabetha, Kas., Sunday on account of the ill ness of the father of the Messrs Hatz. Miss Ortrude Anderson has returned from Seattle, Wash., where she has spent the sum mer, visiting Dr. and Mrs. J. M. Edmund and Phyllis, form er residents of this city, who recently purchased a lovely home there. Miss Anderson was employed at the Port of embarkation while in Seattle. She enjoyed a trip to Canada ,and visited Mr. Rainier and other places of interest in that picturesque part of the States. Miss Martha Cressman of Lincoln visited Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Cresman and family over the weekend. Ernest Meyer returned Sat urday from Woodward, Iowa, having attended the Red Cross National Aquatic school. He has been awarded a safety instruc tion certificates which shows he is qualified to teach both jun ior and senior life-saving Mrs. Ralph Pickering and children are spending the week end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lange near Endicott. Moon and grand daughter, Miss Marion Moon, were visitors in Omaha last week. Emmett Nutter returned Tuesday to Topeka, Kas. Miller, former pas tor of the Fairbury Nazarene church, now of Muncie, Ind., and Mr. and Mrs. Jake Elsasser and son Kenyon of Omaha, were in Fairbury Wednesday evening, calling on Miss Mabel Straw hacker and her mother, Mrs. A. M. Strawbacker. Visitors in Fairbury last week were Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Roney of Salt Lake City, Utah, former Fairburians, with Mr. Roney’s mother, Mrs. James Roney, his brother and sister in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Merle Roney, and other relatives and friends. Their son, Don, who had spent the summer here, re turned home with them. Mrs. Henry Flowers of El Paso, Texas, was a guest of Miss Mabel Burkhart the first of the week.
