Ill l/tie wumru a UUUL’ICS,me spencer (5-4, fj- ].mphis Red Sox Drop Pair To St. LouisBy HAYWARD JACKSONCLEVELAND, Ohio. — CSNS) — Turning in brilliant performancesin two games here at League Park Sunday the St. Louis Stars defeated the Memphis Red Sox 4-3 and 4-i in a regular league double-header.Frank “Chip” McAllister. the Stars’ leading pitcher, hurled masterful baseball in a stirring duelwith Young Hutchinson of the RedSox, but it was the big bat of Pinch-hitter James Ford that snatched the Lrst game out of the fire for Manager George Mitchell’s clan.Going into the last half of the ninth in a 3-3 deadlock, resulting from Riddle’s game tying double inthe eighth, the Stars’ heavy artillery swung into action. Warren singled after McAllister (grounded out. Lyles hit sharply to short and Brown was unable to handle the chance. The Red Sox board of strategy walked Buddy Armourand called in Lefty Mathis to pitchto the portside swinging Mayweath-er. It was here that the Stars launched a counter attack of strategy by sending in Jimmy Ford who hits from the right side to bat for May weather. Ford took a strike andthen bounced a sizzling line drive off right centerfield wall to win thegame for his team.Lefty Walter Calhoun had all ofhis bag of tricks in the night-capand set the Red Sox down with fourhits and an unearned run.
