In keeping with the centennial at Cambridge City, Sept. 15, 16, and 17, it might be well to acquaint the pres ent population of that city and sur rounding community with its business personnel, churches, benevolent or ganizations, and Civil War veterans, of that date. R. J. Strickland was editor and publisher of the “Cambridge City Journal,” the only advertising med ium in the western part of Wayne county. The office was located on the north side of Main street between Center and Foote streets. The Whitewater Valley Caittf was no longer used for the purpose of navigation, but was simply kept in repair sufficient to obtain water pow er which it afforded for propeling machinery. Most of the streets carried their present names with the exception of Basin street, (which is now East Church street) and Railroad street, (which is now West Church street, and extends from the canal west to Boundary street.) Park street, two squares north of Main street, is now Maple street. Cambridge City was a very im portant railroad center. The India napolis Columbus Central connect ed the capitals of Ohio and Indiana. The Cincinnati, Connersville In dianapolis Junction Railroad was com pleted in June (1865) and formed a junction with the Indianapolis Col umbus Central here. Robert S. Lackey, who resided with I. K.
