Headlining the grandstand shows at the Walworth County Fair Friday, Sept. 1, at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m., are the talented Micky Dolenz, Peter Tork, and Davy Jones, The Monkees. One of the first pop groups of the video age, The Monkees have turned out hit after hit, beginning with Last Train To Clarksville and including four No. 1 albums—all within two years.Their first album, The Monkees, was released in September 1966, to coincide with the premiere of the television series, and sold well over 3 million copies in three months, setting a chart record that would be untouched for 17 years. The television series won many Emmy awards and is currently being featured on MTV, the American cable music station, in a 22-hour segment of solid Monkees shows, as well as two episodes a day in March and three a day in April.In the early days, Dolenz, Tork and Jones were surrounded by a songwriting team that included Boyce and Hart, Carole King and Gerry Goffin, Neil Diamond, and David Gates, but each member of the Monkees held his own appeal and following. The group toured extensively throughout the '60s, selling out stadiums and amphitheaters worldwide. Monkeemania closed itscurtain with the cult film Head, directed by Bob Rafelson and written byactor lark Nirhnlcnnwhere. Now in 1989 DavyJones lives in England with his wife and two young daughters; they also have a home in Pennsylvania. Jones collects cars and breeds and races horses. His autobiography, They Made a Monkee Out of Me was published in 1988.Mickey Dolenz, born in Los Angeles, currently lives in England with his wife and three daugh ters. His eldest daughter, Ami, lives in the United States and will star shortly in a film with Tony Danza. Dolenz has performed in the theater and in several television series, including Peyton Place . and Mr. Novak. He has had a string of straight roles on screen and stage assignments as producer anddirector. In 1986 he was reunited with Tork and Jones for a 20th Anniversary Tour of The Monkees in the United States, where they were greeted enthusiastically by audiences both young and old.Peter Tork (Thorkel son) was born in Wash ington D.C. As a boy his talents included classical piano, acoustic guitar, banjo, bass guitar, and various wind instruments. In 1966 he moved to California from Greenwich Village, and after auditioning was chosen, out of more than 400 applicants, to be one of the four insane boys aged 17 to 21 along with Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, and Michael Nesmith, on theNBC television show The Monkees.
