Lower Valley Conference.A Urge number of Alton's population, including the Stake Presidency,the majority of the choir and manyolherH went to Thayne last Sundaymorning to attend special Conferencethere. Two meetings were held,one at 10: a. m., another at‘2: p. m.The instructions were timely andprofitable. In the mornings Pres. Osmond, Colin. Burton and Carl (‘ook addressed the meeting. Iujthe afternoon Coun. A. V’. Call,Pres. Osmond and Conn. \\ . VV.Burton spoke.The remarks of Pres. Osmond were mainly of a temporal nature. The subject was the building of tin* canal out of Salt River, coveringall the vacant land on the cast bench oi the lower valley, lie encouragedthe settlers to unite on some plan of action, then go to work and commence the labor like tliev used to do0in early days and not watt for outside capital to come in and buildthe canal for them.
