Bray, of Silver Bow, presented for congress the name of Hon. T. H. Carter, present territorial delegate. The name was received with cheers, and the nomination was made by acclamation. Mr. Carter, in a neat speech, accepted the nomination and thanked the convention for the honor.For governor, Hon. T. C. Power, of Cboteau, and Hon. Geo. 0. Eaton, of Park, were named. On the first formal ballot the result was as follows: Power, 91 y2\ Eaton, 83^; White, 18; ( arpcti-ter, 1; Mil 8,1. Necessary to a choice, 101 votes. No choice being made a second ballot was ordered, which resulted about the same, giving Power a slight gam. A third ballot was taken, which resulted in the nomination of T. C. It was probably the largest county convention ever held in Deer Lodge county, a total representation of 121 delegates being present, which wa6 increased by a number of visitors from neighboring towns.The bodv was called to order at 12 o'clock and Jolm R. Quigley, of Blackpool, elected temporary chairman, andF. W. Peekover, of Anaconda, temporary secretary. Committees on credentials, consisting of James B. MoMaster, 4. S. Iliggins, \\T. J. Swartz, J. R. Boarman and D. H. Mellon, and general order of business, composed of Fetor Gallagher, J. R. Toole, F. 1. Brown and John T. Strauhal, were appointed, and a recess until 2 p. m. taken.On reassembling, the temporary officera were made permanent. Hamilton, of Anaconda; Angus A. McDonald, of Philipsburg. and George Cockrell, of • eer Lodge, were nominated by acclamation.County Attorney—J. II. Duffy, of Deer Lodge, and W. S. Shaw, of Granite, were placed in nomination, and after a ballot being taken culminated in the nomination of Shaw, who received 69 voios and Duffy 42.Clerk and Recorder—J. F. Brazelton, of Granite, was nominated without opposition.Treasurer—R* T. Kennon, of Deer Lodge, was nominated by acclamation.Assessor—D. H. Mel Tan, of Flint Creek valley, and 'I hoe. cTague, of Ovando, were placed in nomination, and McTague got away with it by a vote of 78 to 35.Sheriff .T. J. King, of Philipsburg; J. R. Quigley, of Anaconda, and -lames Conley, of Deer Lodge, were placed in nomination. J. B. v»cMaster, of Deer Lodge, got up and denounced -lackKing as a traitor to his party, and advised the members of the convention not to vote for him. This aroused the temperature in the convention and audience to a fever heat, and hissing was heard in the rear of the hall, at which some of the Anaconda delegation jumped up and cried: “Stop that hissing!” Jack King hero made a few remarks ami said he would leave the matter to the convention. On the first ballot J. J. King received 35, Conley 30 and Quigley 54. Second ballot: King 32, Conley 23, Quigley 70; total 125. As there were but 121 delegates in the convention the chairman declared that there had been fraud perpetrated and ordered a new ballot. J. R. l oole here moved that J. R. Quig ley be declared the unanimous choice of the convention, which was done.Superintendent of Publiclnstruction— Miss M. Wolfe, of Deer Lodge, was nominated by acclamation.Surveyor—II S.
