LOCAL NEWS.Mr. Hox,lixbiiead's New Boix.Drxo.~It affords us much pleasure to have the opportunity of describing, mdetail, a building which, when completed, will be one of the most unique «*■ tabhshinonta which Newcastle can boast of, and will constitute An important addition to our principal thoroughfares. We refer to the new c litico in course of croction in Hunter-strout for Mr. JoeeDh Hollinshcad, The professional builder will, perhaps, object that strict rule is, in several instances, being departed from for the purpose of “picturesque effect ;'* and the admirers of the severer styles of architecture will, probably, demur to tho excess of embellishment in which Mr. Hollinshcad is about to indulge. The lower story of tho edifice—which is of tho most substantial character- -in now completed, and presents to the eye a woll-duHnod outline of the extensive area which will be occupied by thcso premisos. The building, which is to be three stories high, will be of neat brick-work, inlaid with ornamental stone dressings, and will—when completed—contain twonty-throe rooms, out of which number, eleven will be on the ground floor, six on the second story, and six on the third. The frontage tlt;» Ilunter-stroCt will le thirty-three foot, with a depth of sixty-six feet to Wolfo-streot, and the total height of the edifice—which will have a parapet wall which will be cnrichod by denticulated mouldings— 'ill be fifty feet. The windows will likewise form a principal feature in the design ; they will hare semi-circular tops throughout, ami dressings or archivolts of plain, wrought stone* In addition to the above, there will also ho a balcony ten feet wide, supported by ornamental cast-iron balustrades of an elaborate pattern, and which will continue round the entire depth of the building. Tho interior and exterior fittings of the shops will be of worked cedar, together with a handsome plated glass front, which will thus render the facade a highly creditable and ornate addition to the business premisos of our city. The flooring of tho principal portion of tho building will be laid down with tossala-tod pavement of an cx|xmsivo character. The total oost of erection of those premises will, we believe, exceed £3,000, and the building is to be completod early in October next. Tho Messrs. Dart and Son, the contractors, are at the present vigorously proceeding. Tho plans, Ac., which the edifice is hyiifrom which tho edifice is being erected, are from the studio of Mr. Mansfield, of Sydney, and when completed, tho building will be of a very superior description, and, likewise, in every respect will be particularly adapted for tho purpose for which it is intended,Tlir.
