With the temperature hovering at about 70 degrees, it was a beautiful evening for ball hockey. The first game pitted Red against Blue and saw the Red team snap their losing streak as well as Doug Johnstone snapping his scoring slump. Johnstone scored 4 goals and assisted on two others to place the Reds to an 8-2 victory over the last place Blues. It was Reds first victory in, six games and kept them just one point in front of the second place Greens.With just two games left till playoffs, Red and Green are in a neck in neck race for top spot and the first place trophy. This position could very well be decided Thursday nite as Red plays Green in one of three rained out games.You will find the results of that game further on in this week’s column.The latter game, that same evening, saw Green play Gold in an important battle that may determine 2nd place.Unfortunately for Gold, only six of their players turned out and all six were forced to play the entire game. Green, on the other hand, had a full turn out, and consequently, were able to keep fresh players on most of the time. The result was a one sided, 6-1 win for the Greens. Des Hennessey narrowly missed recording his second straight shut out as the Greens kept Gold off the score sheet for about 59 minutes of this game.Golds only score came asa result of a very questionable offside call made by the referee. It brought the face off deep into Green territory where Tony Marchese got the draw back to Jo*, lnfurnari who rifled a / £not that never left the ground and evaded three Green players including goaler Des Hennessey.It was another beautiful evening last Thursday as the T.B.H.A. set out to play, what proved to be the two roughest games of the season.In the first game it was Red vs. Green for first place. Opening the scoring was Wayne Lawson for Red as he took a perfect pass from Doug Johnstone and broke in on the right side to beat Des Hennessey on a low shot into the corner. Shortly after, Lawson was in the limelight again. But this time it was because of an injury he received while running in on goal. It looked like a broken anklebut fortunately after taking him to the hospital, we were pleased to hear it was just a bad sprain.With Red leading 1-0 play resumed, and it was then that the Greens took possession of the game. On two goals by Ken Clark and one each from Ritchie, Cambell and Lawson, Green romped to an easy 5-1 victory and captured first place.In the second game Gold played Blue in a contest that was crucial to Gold if they are to make a bid for 2nd place.The Golds took command early on an unassisted goal by Dave Schlitt and they neverlooked back. Adding to Schlitt’s goal were two by brother Pete Schlitt, twoby Captain Joe lnfurnari, and one each by Marchese and Cairnes. For Blue itwas Don Jasmins scoring twice while his brotherAndy got the final Blue marker. The 7-3 victorykept Gold two points back of Red and could force a playoff if Red lose and Gold win their respective games next Tuesday night.Unfortunately, both games were marred by fights and as a result, four players received game misconducts plus a oneNorth York Parks and Recreation Department’s Senior Gymnastic Club will commence operation for another season on Saturday, September 13, 1969. The Club in its fourth season of operation has a maximum registration of 200 girls and boys. It is under the leadership of Karl and Margo Nutzenberger and other qualified coaches.Registration is open to new members 11 years and over or those younger having previous gymnasticgame suspension. The players were Jim Ritchie for Green, Brian Rawlins for Red, Don Jasmins for Blue and Fred Cairnes for Gold. Tuesday is the final game and the results from that game could have a definite effect on who will play who in the playoffs.experience.
