A NIGHT PICNIC-How an Enterprising- Walkersville Merchant Celebrated his Opening:.An immense crowd, a tremendous glare of light*. strain? of martial music and free refreshment? were factor? contributing in Walkersville, on Sri-UttUy night to a diversion such as the inhabitants of rhar attractive litile town scarcely ever enjoyed before The occasion was the grand opening by Mr. G. C. Winebrener of a new score in the centre of the village, under auspices that guarantee to that live young merchant a successful mercantile cat oer. Mr. Winebrener utilized the News in advance in advertising his opening and in consequence found Ins commodious store-room insufficient to accomodate those who were in attendance. The opening began about dusk, with the arrival of the Davsvlile cornet band, A. C. Valentine leader, and for over two hours the store was crowded to overflowing with hundreds of people who became recipients of the hospitality of the young proprietor.The site selected bv NTr. Winebrener for his new enterprise was the old Scholl ptoperty, which he recently purchased and refitted throughout.' The store-room is 40\2“ feet, with cellar beneath and hall above and the former has been fitted with new furniture, shelving, cases c, and stocked with a full assortment ofgeneral merchandise, dry goods, notions, boots and shoes, segars, tobacco and everything necessary to a first-class general store. The stock as well as the fixtures, is all new, and represents a value of about $3,000.During the evening the store andCj ^ lt;-?its contents were inspected by those who were attracted by the opening and many of them made purchases which kept Mr. Winebrener’s assistants j Messrs. Charles H. Anders and Harry 0. Stansbury busy behind the counters, and it was only by appealing to the patience of their patrons that these gentlemen were able to meet- the rush successfully. Mr. G. M. Harbaugh, of near Pine Tree School House, furnished very excellent ice cream and that together with other refreshments was available toall. The opening was in every way a success and Mr. Winebrener can congratulate himself on bis prospects. He is wide-awake and popular and has the best wishes of a host of friends and acquaintances ^in his now undertaking.
