He has abund ant proof of a memorable trip into ths Talley in the fall of 1861. When hunting for game he followed the sinuosities of an In* dian trail from the dreotlon of GouHerrlUe and brought up in the ridnity of the Bridal Veil fall, He had hilled a deer and, being nearly worn out with fatigue, was seeking the neareet water when he oame unexpectedly upon a large oamp of hoerile Indians, which hod the effeot of settling all desire of rest or thirat.
