Miss Loretta Dunagan, coun ty superintendent of schools, entertained the rural teachers at a “get acquainted” meeting Saturday afternoon, the 1th. Inst. Mrs. W. Perry of Moun tain View gave a very interest ing talk on “The Importance of the Rural Teacher . This was followed by a round-table dis cussion at which many valuable ideas were exchanged. The social hour followed, during which the hostess served pink ice cream with heart-shaped cakes. The occasion was both profitable and enjoyable. Fred Hassman, who is farm ing in the Miesse tract, recent ly purchased a tractor and is now using the same instead of horses, to do all of his plow ing. Mrs. C. F. Sage expects to leave today for Douglas, Ari zona, where she will join Mr. Sage, who was recently pro moted to the position of ticket agent on the Southern Pacific railroad. Both Mr. and Mrs. Sage will be greatly missed by their many friends here, where they were very popular. THE DEMING GRAPHIC August 25, 1925 Mrs. A. B. Daniels left Fri day, for a visit with their son, Doyle, at Phoenix, Ariz. On her return she expects to stop over at Jerome to visit another nan, Frank. Mrs. Earl Law entertained with a bridge party Thursday at which there were five tables. Prizes were awarded to Mrrs. Russell Cooper. After the games a splendid luncheon was. Ss Myrude and Olive as returned Friday from California where they had been spending the summer. They re port having had a most enjoy able tris Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Peterson motored to El Paso last week to spend several days with their son, Lynford. Additional work is being done all the time at W. A. Suther land's new $25,000 cotton gin, which is located on East Spruce Street at the edge of town. The large 75-horse power electric motor arrived last week, but the 40-horse power motor has not yet come. The large motor will be used for running the gin. C. F. Coggins, who is in charge, has two men assisting him. He expects to have the gin all complete and in run ning order before the first bale of cotton is brought in. THE DEMING GRAPHIC September 8, 1925 One of the longest rainy pells which Deming has had for a long time occurred last week when it rained six suc cessive days. The total precipi tation during this rainy spell amounted to 2.50 inches. These heavy rainfalls are what caus ed the unusually heavy flow of the river through Luna county last Tuesday. The flood waters which came down the Mimbres, feormoup in Grant count irie rains were considerably heavier, did some damage to the railroads, bridges and auto roads. Mr. and Mrs. Fletcher Bow man, Sr., have as their house guests Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Bowman of Albuquerque, and their daughter and son-in-law, Rev. and Sirs. Herb Simpson, of Toronto, Canada. Helen and Clinton Bowman, have returned from a trip through the east, visiting first at San Antonio where they ,saw Tommy Phillips, son of Mrs. Joyce Phillips, then on through New Orleans, News- Port, Va. and Baltimore.
