M*Keddie, Dr. Wood, and the Secretary. •Minutes of previous meeting were reaa mwi u/uQi lt;ac4i A telegram received from Secretary Board of Health, Sydney, reporting case of modified smallpox on a Chinese passenger by the 44 Tsinan.” The ship has been quarantined.Resolved that the following resolution be forwarded through the Government Resident:—“ That the Local Board of Health, reoognisang the necessity of immediate action in the matter of the fresh outbreak of smallpox in Palmerston, undertake the responsibility of dealing with same conditionally on the Government agreeing to meet them in the matter of expenditure therewith, the Local Board not being in a position financially to carry out the power* devolving on them by the Public Health Act.Resolved that the following telegram be forwarded to Sydney :—44 Respecting the case of suxall-pox on 44 Tsinan,” this Board desire to inform you that this corroborates their ides* that the disease emanates from Hongkong, and can be in no way attributable to Port Darwin, as no communication from the shore took place except what was stated in the certificate. A case of small-pox has declared itself today in a European, who is a glut officer of Customs. This Board is perfectly satisfied that small pox was first introduced here from Hongkong by the ‘♦Port Victor; this Board is now taking steps to have Hongkong declared an infected port.”Resolved that a telegram be sent to the Central Board of Health, in Adelaide, notifying the fresh case.Resolved that a notice be published in the local papers, warning the residents about the Chinese washing establishments, also askidg the assistance of all Europeans in the matter.Notices also to be posted about the town.
