He was to have spoken in the Theatre, but the doors were shut on him.The Rev. J. Baron, the Roman Catholic clergyman, did his utmost to prevent the Roman Catholics from going near him, but a mob of Irishmen went into the streets, and, meeting the Baron, he was thrown down, and, it is said, would have been much hurt but for the protection offered him by. the Mayor and the police. On Tuesday evening, he got on the balcony of the Royal Hotel, and for a long period the thoroughfare was obstructed bv the crowd that had gathered. This time the Roman Catholics, to a great extent/kept away ; but some were present, and those who ventured to express dissent were roughly used. After the Baron had concluded, a mob of Protestants made an attack on the Irish quarter ot New-street, breaking windows, and assaulting all they came across, and, after that, they smashed windows m the Catholic schools and chapel; and, in the assault on the school, the Superior of the Sisters of Charity, then trresident, narrowly escaped being severely wounded by 111the immense missiles flung into the building. Mr. Wattviel, one of the priests, was also assaulted, but he escaped without any serious injury. The damage done to amounts to between £20 and £30. During the evening, plt; the Baron called for the putting down of nunneries. On ft Wednesday last, at the Court-house, before Mr. Barff and alt; W. Shaw, Esq., (Mayor,) Patrick Sullivan and Patrick Corcoran were brought up for having committed an o: assault on the Baron on Monday. Several witnesses deposed to their presence.
