\Dog Fennel Disappearing.Id the changed conditions and the better care taken of our streets, alleys, vacant lots and yards there has been almost a complete disappearance of a growth that was once universal In and around Attica, and that Is the plant known as dog fennel. It was a crop that required no particular kind of soli or weather conditions. It grew In dooryards, streets and alleys, but mostly In the old commons that could be found thirty years ago In all parts of the city, and It grew very luxuriantly. Sometimes the crop would be mowed butttmadeno difference with the next year’s growth even if It had been cut before the seed matured; there was always a good crop of dog fennel. It always came up again. But a change has come,' when and how no one seems to know. Dog fennel has disappeared from Attica. You will not see a sprig of It In a day’s walk about the city. Other prettier and sweeter growths have taken Its place. If there Is any of It vet left it Is so hidden that the ordinary observer overlooks it. If anv other community has more attractions for the crop that community is welcome to It. Attica wants nice grass to cover its lawns and play grounds. It wants flowers and trees in place of the old odorous fennel. May the crop of rag weeds and other unsightly growths follow.
